REFORESTATION VISA
The Reforestation Visa. Panama's Green Pathway.
Invest in Panama's government-certified reforestation projects and receive legal residency as a direct result. A unique and genuinely impactful pathway that combines environmental contribution with personal and financial benefit.
What It Is
The Panama Reforestation Investor Visa is a residency program that allows foreign nationals to obtain legal residency by investing in government-certified commercial reforestation projects regulated by the Ministry of Environment. It is one of Panama's most distinctive and underutilized residency pathways, offering a lower entry point than most investment visas while generating a genuine environmental contribution.
Investments must be made in authorized commercial forest plantations, typically teak or mahogany, that meet technical and legal criteria established by Panama's National Environmental Authority.
Who It Is For?
The Reforestation Visa appeals to clients who are environmentally minded investors looking for an alternative to real estate or bank deposits, clients seeking the lowest cost entry point to Panama residency, and clients who want to combine their residency investment with a long-term asset that has potential for timber returns.
No prior experience in agriculture, forestry, or environmental management is required.
Investment Routes
1. Provisional Residency
Invest a minimum of USD 100,000 in an authorized teak reforestation project. This grants two years of temporary residency, after which you may apply for permanent residency. The most accessible entry point. For each dependent included in the application, the investment must be increased by USD 2,000. All investments must be maintained for a minimum of five years.
2. Immediate Permanent Residency
Invest a minimum of USD 350,000 in an authorized reforestation project and receive immediate permanent residency from day one, with no provisional period. Comparable in structure to the Qualified Investor Visa. For each dependent included in the application, the investment must be increased by USD 2,000. All investments must be maintained for a minimum of five years.
What You Receive
Legal residency in Panama, either provisional converting to permanent or immediate permanent depending on investment level. Cedula and full resident rights. Family inclusion. Access to Panama's banking system. Zero Panamanian tax on foreign-sourced income once genuine tax residency is established. Path to Panamanian citizenship after five years of permanent residency.
A tangible environmental contribution. Your investment directly funds the restoration of Panama's forests, the creation of local employment, and the preservation of biodiversity in one of the world's most biodiverse corridors.
And in many cases, a future financial return. Authorized reforestation projects often generate revenue through the eventual commercialization of harvested timber, providing a long-term yield on your investment alongside its residency qualification value.
